Survival Strategies for Minority Institutions (Case Study of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sunan Ampel Village Watuprapat Pasuruan)

Abstract

This research examines the survival strategy of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sunan Ampel in Watuprapat Village, Pasuruan, in the face of competition with surrounding public elementary schools. This research uses a case study with a qualitative approach. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. This research uses source, method, and time triangulation techniques. Source triangulation is done by comparing information from various research subjects. Method triangulation was applied by combining interviews, observation, and documentation. Time triangulation was done by collecting data at different times to see the consistency of information. The results showed that MI Sunan Ampel managed to survive and develop through various innovative strategies. Among them are student pick-up programs to facilitate access, free registration that attracts parents, and affordable education costs so that they are more competitive. In addition, the teaching of English and Arabic is an added value that the community is interested in. Branding activities also play an important role in building a positive image of MI Sunan Ampel in the eyes of the community, increasing parents' trust in choosing this institution. This finding supports organizational survival theory, emphasizing the importance of adaptation and response to community needs and expectations. Through the implementation of these strategies, MI Sunan Ampel demonstrated the ability not only to survive but also thrive in a competitive educational environment. This research provides valuable insights for other educational institutions facing similar challenges.
