Islamic Education Quality Enhancement through Arabic-Medium International Class at Mahad Al Birr

This study examines the implementation of an international class program using Arabic as the medium of instruction to enhance students’ understanding of Islamic education at Mahad Al Birr, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. Employing a qualitative approach through interviews and observations, the research reveals that the Arabic-medium international class contributes positively to students’ comprehension of classical and contemporary Islamic scholarship. Students are encouraged to engage with primary Islamic texts directly and develop deeper analytical skills. However, challenges remain, such as initial language barriers and the need for intensive linguistic support. The study suggests that integrating language support programs and contextual Islamic content is crucial for maximizing the academic benefits of the international class. The findings provide insights for Islamic higher education institutions seeking to strengthen both linguistic and religious competencies among their students.
